Canyoning

Years ago it was just good fun to splash around, feel the force of the wild mountain stream and clamber about over the rocks and boulders. That was about 15 years ago. In the meantime, canyoning has developed into one of the ultimate natural sporting experiences with an emotive intensity that far exceeds any other activity.

The secret lies in the way the water plays and the tangible feeling of the tremendous elemental force in a mountain canyon. The result is a mixture of excitement, being at one with nature and simply a cool feeling!

The Seisenbergklamm - what more can you want?

Every beginner's dream of a canyon. But also experienced canyoning freaks are always impressed by this gorge.

A short pathway, the impressive rock formations of over 200 million years, emerald green gullies and interesting dives make this a tour full of spectacular contrasts. Plus, for the fainter-hearted there is the option of an alternative route.

The tour begins by entering the upper part where the rock walls still have a lot of space between them. First you need to get used to walking along the riverbed, being careful where you tread and getting used to the pressure of the current. The guide is always right by you and will show you the best route to take. You'll soon be well aware of the fact that you are part of something very special.

Later in the "Dunkelkamm", you can only use sign language. The water thunders through the narrow passage and the speed of the water increases markedly. In the "Dunkelkamm" you'll have your most intense experiences.

Is canyoning suitable for you?

It is most important that you are sure-footed
and agile. The guide is always with you and
will support you if you require. But everyone must be able to move forward on his or her own. The guide cannot always support each person.

What is demanded of you varies from canyon to canyon. There are dry abseiling canyons just as there are very watery ones where you'll come out with webbed feet.

One main requirement is that you are fit and healthy. You are in the water a great deal and despite the thick suits, it can still get a bit chilly. Your equipment consists of a 6,5mm thick neoprene suit with hood.

So you should be OK for a good while, even if you are sensitive to the cold.

Tip: to keep you warm, a thin fleece or woolly jumper worn under the suit will work wonders.

Should you doubt whether you are suitable or if you would like to be let lightly down into the world of white water, then come rafting first.

Here you soon get used to what is required of you and how to handle the current properly.

The Fischbachklamm

Karl May came here and surrounded by these rocks, he thought up the stories of Winnetou. You'll get the same feeling if you are here on a sunny day and see the sunlight sparkling in the cascading waterfalls.

The gorge starts off dramatically: abseiling down 30 metres, conquering your fear of heights and your own weaker self. Of course the guide has everything under control.

Depending on your experience, participants can either abseil down themselves and control their own speed or can just be let down very gently by the guide.

The gorge is a wonderful mixture of turquoise waterholes, abseiling passages and daring jumps: it is a unique jewel of nature that demands respect and consideration by all who enter.

Fallbach in Tirol - THE Challenge

The typical characteristics of canyons can easily be summed up in one sentence: every one of them is beautiful and at the same time remarkably interesting.

The Fallbach is a pure abseiling canyon with a lot of fresh air underneath you. That's the sort of feeling you have after climbing up quite a demanding hunters' path to get to the start. You arrive at a spot about 300 metres higher in the rock face with your heart in your mouth.

Of course, the view is absolutely amazing - you can look down into the Inntal / Tirol and get an idea of what you have to master over the next few hours. Your guide will demand calm and conscientious efficiency from you. Trust between you will grow each time you abseil down, so that the deepest drop of around 90 metres will hardly even bother you.
