FAQs - Frequently asked questions

You should always be able to ask questions before starting something new or unknown. Should you have a question and you cannot find the answer here, then please just send us an email. We would rather tell you everything in advance.

 How cold is the water?
That depends on the weather and the time of year. Our local river, the Saalach, is around 10 - 12°C in June.

 Can anything happen?
We do our best to make sure that things go as planned. Nevertheless, in water we are working with a very volatile medium and with people whose abilities are often difficult to judge.

If I set off from here ( the rafting stage ), will I come back to here?
Yes, but hopefully not with the boat - as the river doesn't go round in a circle. You will have a short journey by road.

Do you really have to be able to swim?
For the standard course you have to have the basics. The guides will also check this before the tour starts. On the more difficult courses you must be a very good swimmer. An exception will be made for children on the very easy courses.

What do I wear under the wetsuit?
We recommend swimwear, maybe a T-shirt and perhaps socks for reasons of hygiene. In very cold conditions e.g. canyoning in the spring, we would also recommend a thin jumper or fleece underneath.

I'm a little afraid of heights; can I still go on the mountain tours?
If you are just trying out climbing, it shouldn't be a problem and it is truly worth trying. You can work at overcoming your fears. It is not such a good idea if you are on a tour where there is no going back - you would probably be talked out of going along.

I have just had an operation, can I still go along?
Your own doctor will tell you how long you should wait before starting certain activities.

 What about blood pressure?
Unforeseen circumstances and unaccustomed strain during sporting activity can lead to heart and circulatory problems for those who suffer from high or low blood pressure. Please seek your doctor's advice and choose an activity to suit your own condition.

Can I still take part if I am pregnant?
Again, please consult your own doctor. For certain activities it has proved to be no problem, whereas for other activities it is definitely out of the question. Every case is different and we cannot just make a generalisation.

I would like to be pregnant, what can I do?
  Well - now that's a good question...

My friend doesn't like getting wet.
Then throw him in. That'll cure him.

I'm over 60, can I still come along?
Yes, it doesn't have to be the most difficult tour. But of course it is always good to stay active, so long as you take an activity to suit your level of fitness.

Will I get wet when I'm rafting?
Yes, and you'll be glad of it too - otherwise you'll get too hot. But don't worry, you have a wetsuit.

Will that thin rope really hold me?
Yes. Climbing ropes can hold up to about 2 tons. That's about the same weight as a small minibus.

 I don't need a helmet, I never wear one...
Please don't push your luck. Besides, here it is regulation to wear a helmet when rafting, mountain biking and climbing.

Do the fish bite as well?
  Yes, often your little toes.

Is there a guide with us?
Yes, there's one in every raft, providing he's not thrown overboard. A guide in a raft or kayak accompanies canoes.
