The Area

As in so many alpine areas, our history has its roots in a gathering of small farmsteads and villages. Mining gave some villages the advantage over others. Otherwise there was no industry as we know it at that time: industry could have made the simple and often impoverished life of the farmers a little easier.

However, going back in time we can start to see the beginnings of the tremendous development this area has made into one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.

This area is one of the most rewarding and relaxing, mainly due to the preservation of farming and cultivation of the land plus the conservation of our beautiful surroundings and the relatively small amount of heavy industry.

Day by day as you travel through our area, you can almost feel the harmony that has evolved between the people and their surroundings, between animal and man.
